Problem

When I try to run startup.bat, it fails with the
message

The system cannot find -Dcms.upload.tmpdir=c:\magnolia\author\webapps\magnolia\tmp

but the directory exists.

Reason

JAVA_HOME does not point to Java JSDK

Solution

1. Make sure you have installed Java JSDK (download J2SE v 1.4.2_05 SDK). JRE, Java Runtime Environment, is not enough.
2. Define JAVA_HOME with the appropriate path.
